GFI Education Outreach

Education Micro-Sponsorship Programme (Secondary Level)

Grace Foundation International (GFI) supports highly vulnerable adolescents in rural Kenya to transition into and remain in secondary school—at the most fragile point where many capable students drop out permanently due to poverty, family disruption, and social vulnerability.

The Challenge

In many rural homes, secondary school costs exceed household income. When families are strained by separation, unemployment, or land fragmentation, adolescents are forced out of school. Girls face compounded risks, including pressure toward early marriage and vulnerability to exploitation linked to economic desperation. Once out of school, re-entry is rare.

A Case in Point (Anonymous)

  • Two twin boys recently joined Form One after a family breakdown. Their household survives on a very small farm and irregular casual labor from older siblings. Without timely support, their education would have ended at primary level. They are now in school, but their continuity remains fragile without sustained sponsorship.
  • A vulnerable girl-student from a similarly strained household is at high risk of leaving school due to extreme economic hardship and social pressure. In such contexts, some girls drop out after being taken advantage of by unscrupulous older men, while others face imminent early marriage. Secondary education is both opportunity and protection.

Our Intervention

GFI provides targeted micro-sponsorships that stabilize secondary education access through:

  • Payment of essential school fees
  • Uniforms and learning materials
  • Meals/basic welfare support
  • Pastoral follow-up, safeguarding, and monitoring

Target & Cost

Target cohort: 15–20 highly vulnerable secondary school students (Form One–Form Four), with priority attention to the girl-child.

Cost per student per year: USD 1,200

Budget Item (USD / Student / Year) USD
Tuition & mandatory school fees 650
Uniforms (2 sets + sweater) 150
Learning materials & stationery 120
Meals / basic welfare support 180
Pastoral care, safeguarding & monitoring 100
Total per student per year 1,200

Total annual budget: 15 students = USD 18,000 | 20 students = USD 24,000

Call to Action

We invite partners, foundations, faith-based organizations, and individual sponsors to support this cohort through full or partial sponsorship. A sponsorship of USD 1,200 keeps one student in school for a full year. To sponsor 5 students, the annual cost is USD 6,000; to anchor a cohort of 10 students, the annual cost is USD 12,000. Dairy Farming Demonstration Unit (DFDU)

Transforming rural livelihoods through climate-smart dairy farming

A high-yield dairy cow under GFI’s DFDU initiative supporting smallholder dairy productivity and rural food security in Kenya.

The Dairy Farming Demonstration Unit (DFDU) is Grace Foundation International’s flagship initiative designed to increase household incomes, improve nutrition, and strengthen climate resilience among smallholder dairy farmers in Kenya’s South Rift region. DFDU functions as a living learning hub where farmers learn by doing—then replicate best practices at home.

Impact Snapshot

  • 200+ households directly supported (2026–2030 target)
  • 30–50% increase in milk yields (target)
  • USD 600–1,200 annual income increase per household (target)
  • Strong participation of women and youth across the dairy value chain

Figures can be updated as monitoring data accumulates.

What DFDU Delivers

  • Hands-on training in animal health, feeding, breeding, and hygiene
  • Climate-smart pasture and fodder management
  • Improved milk quality, handling, and productivity
  • Market readiness and pathways to better, stable incomes

Coffee & Avocado Demonstration Unit (CADU)

Building climate-resilient value chains for sustainable rural incomes

The Coffee & Avocado Demonstration Unit (CADU) equips farmers with the skills and tools required to produce higher-quality crops, withstand climate shocks, and earn better returns from regional and global markets. CADU demonstrates sustainable practices that improve yields while protecting soil, water, and biodiversity.

Impact Snapshot

  • 2,000+ farmers reached through training and replication (2026–2030 target)
  • 25–40% increase in crop yields (target)
  • USD 800–1,500 annual income growth per household (target)
  • Inclusive participation of women and youth in cash-crop agriculture

Targets can be refined based on baseline surveys and seasonal trends.

What CADU Delivers

  • Climate-smart agronomy, agroforestry, soil health and water conservation
  • Improved nurseries, planting, pruning, and farm management
  • Post-harvest handling, quality management, and value addition
  • Stronger buyer linkages and market readiness
